Besides my flower garden, I have a large herb garden that I am quite proud of. I grow a variety of herbs, not only for myself, but for my family and friends as well. Of all of my different herbs, I have an absolute favorite that I truly look forward to each year. Some of you may have heard of it, while others may have not- but anyway, it is called Tarragon and it is absolutely delightful.
Tarragon is a French herb that has a wonderful taste and is used to add flavor to a variety of food. It has a flavor unlike any other herb I’ve ever used. It reminds me in a sense of basil, yet it has a sweet aftertaste that makes it great for making chocolate as well. I use my Tarragon in a number of different ways when cooking.
You can grind fresh tarragon and use it while cooking, add it to virgin olive oil to create an amazing cooking oil or allow the leaves to dry up and then grind them into small pieces to create a spice. The most difficult part of Tarragon is its difficult growing conditions. The plant is basically impossible to grow from seed, so you have to purchase a small tarragon plant and grow it from there. It also requires a lot of sunlight and much more care than your typical herb.
If you grow your Tarragon right, you’ll have it for use the entire winter. Tarragon can be frozen whole and used for years without it going bad. It can also be used directly from the freezer without the need to defrost it before use. If you haven’t tried Tarragon, don’t miss out on it any longer.
